Actually, it's the reverse. If the power grid doesn't go down, the extreme irradiation of all life on Earth could create an extinction level event. In fact, that is (((their))) plan and why I doubt they will actually shut down the grid. It is their #1 weapon -- the key to destroying life. It is also the key to their control system. Without it, they have nothing.
The power grid is not life-sustaining, it has, from its inception, been designed to trap us and kill us. We have become dependent on this grid much to our detriment.

And your mention of the septic makes me again realize just how dependent we have become on this artificial system. All other species eliminate outside. But not us. We have our nice little technocratic structures that keep us warm and allow us to eliminate inside. But we will not die if we don't have this. We will just be returning to a natural existence.
